Pocket Wheels
The Pocket Wheel is just over 18 inches and 6 1/2 pounds and easily disassembles, fitting flat in a shopping bag. Despite its small size, it is an attractive, full-featured wheel with a large bobbin that holds 3-4 ounces of yarn and a unique belt-less drive system, giving continuous ratios from 3.5 through 10 ;standard and to 15 high speed. Individually hand crafted in Bellingham.
The woods I'm making them out of now are wild cherry, local maple, birch and all of them have a black locus front leg because it bends so well. Black locus is a yellow wood. I have been selling them with a clear acrylic finish but will start selling an unfinished option. I am going to have a friend who has a furniture making business start making parts because I can't keep up. I've been making them myself by hand in my garage shop. He is going to make them out of maple and cherry. The wheel part is Baltic birch plywood. The way it is now it will take different bobbins with an accessory tube that makes the bobbin shaft 5/16 which most of the other bobbins are. This can be placed on the bobbin shaft when needed. The wheel is $450, extra $40 for cherry, the accessory tube is $8 and my bobbins are $25. It comes with 3 bobbins. Unfinished it is $400.. I don't have credit card or pay pal capabilities yet so mailing a check is the only distance option. I am asking for a $100 deposit on wheels ordered with specifications out of the ordinary.
